Medical Yoga or MediYoga and Mindfulness are the elements I work with, combined with integrated mental training, where physical and mental relaxation form the first part of the foundational training. Physical and mental relaxation are the most crucial ingredients and the key to performing at your best while feeling good along the way. Therefore, exercises and tools from medical yoga and mindfulness are always included in my training programs and setups with clients. Below is more information about this training and its powerful methods, and you can book your training either online, in a private session at InMo Medveten Träning, or at Danderydsgatan 2 (on Thursdays).
I also offer group yoga classes on Mondays at 12.00-13.00, Wednesdays from 19:10 to 20:10, Thursdays at 18.00-19.10 and on Fridays from 15:30 to 16:30. The Wednesday classes are ”livestreamed” via the private Facebook group ”Stolt, stark och säker – Träning för mental styrka och balans”. You can apply for membership via the following link and then join. Livestream classes cost 50 SEK per session, and information can be found in the FB group. All sessions are also held in person. Medical Yoga
Medical Yoga, or MediYoga as it is now known, is the therapeutic form of yoga used in Swedish healthcare to strengthen your body and mind from the inside out. This form of yoga originates from Kundalini Yoga and has gained widespread popularity in Sweden and abroad since 1997, when Göran Boll (listen more about this in episode 30 with Göran Boll on my podcast Idrott- och ledarskapspodden) along with researchers and doctors at Karolinska Institutet, Huddinge Hospital, and Danderyd Hospital began studying the remarkable effects of this yoga form on patients. Today, there are over 10,000 studies conducted on yoga, all showing positive effects on well-being in body and mind.
MediYoga is the form of yoga I use as the basis for my relaxation training, in addition to the various tools found in mental training. MediYoga can be defined as a form of ”body-mind” training, a holistic approach that calms the mind, increases body awareness, and balances the body’s nervous and hormonal systems, while also contributing to increased mobility, flexibility, and strength. You learn about the 7 energy systems (the chakra system) and receive exercises to create balance within this entire system.
Exercises from MediYoga are always included in my relaxation training with my students. For instance, I created a customized MediYoga program for the rock band Rammstein in preparation for their concert at Stadion in the summer of 2019. They recognized the importance of using yoga as preparation for a performance, and I repeatedly see how this form of training enhances both performance and well-being for my students, whether they are athletes, professionals, or students.
The core of MediYoga is to create increased balance physically, mentally, and emotionally
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a state where our attention and awareness are fully present in the current situation. This definition, given by Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, captures the essence of mindfulness. Becoming aware of how easily your mind wanders into the future or the past is a significant step in learning how to both feel and perform well, especially in situations where you want to act according to your full potential, such as before a golf swing, a serve, a penalty, a match, a race, a lecture you’re delivering, an important meeting, or similar situations. It is not easy to stay in the present moment, and therefore we often need tools and considerable practice to repeatedly bring our focus back to the now.
The tools I work with primarily include MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), which is the mindfulness training developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have experienced this through Linda Björk’s Mindfulness Intelligence training (listen more about this and Linda in episodes 19, 20, 50, and 51 of the Idrott- och ledarskapspodden) and from MiMy (Mindfulness & MediYoga in combination) through the Balansinstitutet and Sara Emilionie (episode 23 of the Idrott- och ledarskapspodden). These tools are both simple and effective, and you will have the opportunity to use them in my training with you. The exercises include breathing, physical movements, deep relaxation, and meditation. The goal is to synchronize these aspects with each other along with body awareness training. The foundation and common thread in the training is breathing, which most clearly connects the mental and physical aspects.
By practicing mindfulness and becoming consciously present, you enhance both your well-being and your performance.
Through Medical Yoga I learned to be mindful in my everyday life and at work. I go to class every week and combine this with a session with Jenny now and then. This help me stay balanced and mentally strong. Thank you!
